What is Doc and 8 Ball?

I started Doc and 8 Ball mainly to be a catalyst for my music and video. I figured, while I’m at it, I may as well use it for my writing as well. What if I could combine my music, video and writing into one collective force? Can I showcase my music and my videos all while writing reviews on everything from movies to restaurants? I want to make short films. Can I showcase them here? What if I could do reviews as video and meld the two hobbies together? What about music videos? It soon became apparent to me that Doc and 8 Ball was going to be more than my previous attempts at a label, (R.I.P. Mischivion Music, Evolution Records, and R-Tickle-8 Studios) but more of an opportunity for me to really meld my passions into one creative endeavor.

What kind of name is Doc and 8 Ball?

I went through a lot of names before I settled on Doc and 8 Ball. I wanted something that sounded cool, meant something, and didn’t take a ridiculous amount of explaining. I loved the way Doc and 8 Ball sounded, and I thought it would be pretty easy to remember. So how did I come up with it? Obviously, I’m a film buff. I love movies. One of my favorite directors of all time is Stanley Kubrick. Doc and 8 Ball is named after Doc J and 8 Ball, the two characters in Full Metal Jacket that are taken out by the sniper towards the end of the movie. “What about Doc Jay and 8 Ball” is a memorable line screamed by Animal Mother. “Doc jay and 8 ball are wasted, you know that” replies Cowboy. I’ve always felt this was a powerful scene and the name sort of pays homage to that.
